Columbus Ohio Family Photos

What To Expect with Angie Ludwig Photography

Whether we're shooting by the water at Alum Creek, under the willow tree at Everal Barn in Westerville, along the scenic skyline at the downtown Scioto Trail, or in the comfort of your home, I want your experience with me to be one that is stress-free, fun, and a sweet memory for your family!

My Approach

When you look back at your family photo session, I want you to see your real life beautifully preserved. My heart is in documenting what is real, raw, and beautiful about your family. I'll capture the laughter and joy, the playfulness and chaos, and even the messy parts, like when your toddler is melting down and how you bring comfort.

I like to start things off by capturing a few timeless, looking-at-the-camera portraits while everyone is fresh. This acts as a great warm-up and checks the traditional family photo off your list right away. From there, we lean more into the candid, true-to-life interactions that showcase how your family truly connects.

The biggest compliment my clients give me is how comfortable, connected, and fun their session felt. There are a lot of photographers who can take a pretty picture, but my focus is on capturing how your family actually feels. We won't be going through a shot list or trying to make your family fit into a pose, we'll be creating a space where you all feel free to be yourselves!

Choosing Outfits

You don't have to fit in a box or seriously limit your personalities when picking outfits in order to have a gallery you’ll love. My goal is to help you create a beautiful and timeless gallery you’ll be excited to hang on your walls and look back on for years to come—and your outfits are just one piece of that puzzle. Choose an outfit that you feel comfortable in and that shows your personality!

When you book with me, I'll send you the link to my Pinterest board for outfit inspiration! And if you'd like, I can make a board specifically for you to help as we plan your session together! Many of my clients like to text me pictures of their outfit ideas as they plan, and I love to help.

Prepping Your Kids

It can definitely help to tell your kids that you're going to see your friend with a camera. Let them know we're going to smile for pictures, but we're also going to play, explore, and have fun together!  You really help to set the tone here - if they know you are excited for family photos and have fun  together, they'll be excited too!

One of my favorite tips for parents is to bring treats for during the session. Fruit snacks, mini marshmallows, gummies - whatever your kids love and will enjoy as a fun reward as we go!

Choosing a Location

I've created a location guide with specific places where I love to go with families and some guidance for when each location is best. When you reach out to me to book, I'll share this with you as we are discussing all the details of our session!

This is what I need you to hear:

Maybe it’s stressful getting everyone dressed and out the door on time, maybe there’s a meltdown when you’re getting out of the car, or maybe your kiddos just aren’t feeling it and don’t want their pictures taken... that’s okay! That’s real life, and our session will serve as a chance to pause from the chaos so that you can hold your little ones close and document the family you love so much.

I want you to trust me to lead during our session. If your kids meltdown, don't stress, really!! I have seen it before (and I see it all the time at home!) Give me the chance to connect with your kids and reset, and we will get beautiful images!

What's the best location for photos in Columbus, Ohio?

A place that has meaning for your family - and great light! Anywhere that your kids are comfortable and free to be themselves is the best place, and we'll schedule when the lighting is best! Especially your home - your front porch or your backyard are great places to document your family's story.

How long do family photo sessions last?

I try not to set specific time limits for my sessions, I want to let the time together unfold and create a beautiful gallery with you, and not be stressed by any time constraint. I typically spend about an hour with my families, but that varies from session to session!

What if my kids aren't on their best behavior?

What if my kids aren't on their best behavior?

It happens!! Don’t be stressed about things going perfectly. I promise you, if your goal for our session is to have fun and laugh with your kids, we will have some great photos! I expect kids to be kids, and that’s where the real magic happens.

When do we get our photos?

You'll get your full online gallery delivered to you in 3 weeks. And because I am always so excited about your photos, I will text you a couple sneak peeks the day after our session!!
